The bone collector

The beginnings of a collection of fish bones collected on a recent trip to Rush Beach in Dublin with Meabh de Burca. The makings of something are on the tip of my tongue, just have to give it the time to come together. I am hoping for good news today and that will spur me on to get going....cross your fingers and toes for me.

Frances Lambe, ceramics artist

Photographs from a recent trip to Kinsale Arts Week. Myself, Meabh de Burca and Clodagh Kelly visited the Kinsale Pottery and Arts Centre to see Frances Lambe discuss her work and sketchbooks. It was an inspiring talk and although ceramics is none of our chosen mediums the method of building a concept, documenting and recording it was relatable to us all.

Thank you Frances.

* Frances Lambe recently partook in a group exhibition called transFORM at Farmleigh House.

The Yellow Wallpaper

An online exhibition curated by Tom Gallant who worked with Marios Schwab on the dress Dress09.

The novella The Yellow Wallpaper (1892) provides a framework for images and influences that relate to my practice and Dress 09. Its author Charlotte Perkins Gilman powerfully conveys a claustrophobic world inhabited by a Victorian wife passively imprisoned by her husband. Invited by the Crafts Council to curate this exhibition, I’ve selected seven quotes from it that pertain to connections both literary and artistic, and examples of my own work that have led to the making of Dress 09.

No more apologies

I realise a lot of my recent posts are dedicated to other artists rather than my own work. Suddenly being studio(less) has made it quite hard to work but I'm aware that I need to keep myself in that "space" so that when a naturally light-filled room calls for me I can glide back in to the practical side of things. Come on room....

Jane Hughes, visual artist

Jane Hughes

"My art practice involves the investigation of place. I am interested in the alternative use of spaces and materials in a manner which does not obey traditional parameters, but rather allows for experimentation, innovation, errors, deliberate chaos, and the rejection of uniformity. In my work, the end product of a perfect image is not the priority, but rather the outcome of multiple processes of overlap, integration and mutation, which allow for a continual possibility of discovery." 'Organised chaos' so said the man himself

“I can dream all day long and ideas for paintings just fall into my mind like slides,” Francis Bacon.
